SOTW: How to Take Awesome Notes and Learn

It always surprises teachers that students don’t come into high school knowing how to take notes (or what to actually do with their notes to study). Instead of complaining, I take a different approach and teach them how to do it.  I model a lot and have the students practice over and over again in class before I even expect them to be able to do it on their own. I also teach them strategies on what to do with their notes.  I work at a high school that has AVID, so I tend to teach my students the Cornell Note method for reviewing their notes.
